The White House created a media “Hall of Shame” as Trump escalated his campaign against “fake news.” Officials said the portal prevents hoaxes, anonymous claims, and partisan smears from being ignored.
Major Outlets and Accusations Highlighted
The portal named The Washington Post “Offender of the Week” and criticized The New York Times, CNN, CBS News, and The Independent. It listed Associated Press and Reuters, accusing one of bias and omission, the other of lying. Officials grouped claims into categories including circular reporting, false claims, malpractice, misrepresentation, and left-wing lunacy. Matt Murray, executive editor of the Post, condemned the targeting and reaffirmed the newspaper’s commitment to accurate reporting.
Press Freedom Concerns Rise
The site excluded conservative outlets from criticism. The Media Research Centre praised the portal as a necessary identification of liberal-leaning media. Experts warned DW that targeting journalists threatens press freedom and U.S. democracy. Trump intensified his attacks on journalists, often women, calling them “stupid,” “piggy,” and “ugly inside and out.”
