Patrick Bamford has signed a short-term deal with Sheffield United, just months after leading a derogatory chant about their manager, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old striker, released by Leeds United in August, has agreed a contract with the Championship club until January as Wilder looks to boost his side’s struggling attack.
Bamford was filmed leading abusive chants about Wilder during Leeds’ promotion celebrations in April. However, the pair have since reconciled, with Bamford and then-Leeds manager Daniel Farke calling Wilder to apologise the next day.
“Had a conversation with Pat yesterday and I’ve no issue at all with it,” Wilder said at the time. “He called me, and I respected that. These things happen in football.”
Bamford, who has battled injuries in recent years, made 18 appearances for Leeds last season. Now, he joins Sheffield United — the Championship’s lowest scorers — hoping to revive his career under the same manager he once mocked.
