David Raya extends Arsenal’s record clean-sheet run but vows to stay alert

Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya continues to make history, helping his side equal a 122-year-old club record after their 3–0 win over Slavia Prague in the Champions League — the team’s eighth straight clean sheet.

Although rarely tested, Raya showed his trademark focus when sprinting to the touchline to consult goalkeeping coach Iñaki Caña before a late penalty that was later overturned by VAR. The Spaniard still produced a routine stop in injury time to maintain his spotless record in Europe, where he’s yet to concede this season.

Raya, who joined from Brentford in 2023, has now made 50 clean sheets in 110 games, surpassing the mark set by Jimmy Ashcroft in 1903. Arsenal have allowed only 12 shots on target in nearly 13 hours of football.

“You never know when the other team is going to have a chance,” Raya said. “You have to be alert 90, 100 minutes every game.”

Manager Mikel Arteta praised Raya’s focus and preparation, noting his 84.2% save rate — the best in the Premier League. Raya’s proactive style, improved communication with Caña, and confidence in claiming crosses have been central to Arsenal’s defensive dominance.

With Sunderland up next, Arsenal are now the first English top-flight team in over a century to win eight consecutive matches without conceding, and Raya insists the key is staying sharp: “I have to be alert — always.”
