Liberty Middle School has launched an exciting new elective called “Flight and Space” that gives students hands-on experience in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through rocketry. The program aims to make learning fun while preparing students for future technical careers.

More than 80 students have enrolled in the course, exploring everything from building rockets to understanding the physics of flight. Teachers say the program allows students to apply classroom knowledge to real-world challenges, boosting both curiosity and problem-solving skills.

The elective focuses on practical STEM skills that students can use in middle school and beyond. Participants learn about aerodynamics, propulsion, and design, while also practicing teamwork and project management. Each student gets the opportunity to design, build, and launch their own small rocket under guided supervision.

Educators highlight that hands-on learning improves student engagement. By working on rocketry projects, students gain confidence in applying math and science concepts to real-world problems. The program also introduces students to careers in engineering, aerospace, and technology.

Principal of Liberty Middle School said the initiative helps students see the connection between school subjects and future opportunities. She noted that programs like this can spark interest in technical fields early, giving students a head start in their education and career paths.

The “Flight and Space” elective is part of the school’s broader effort to expand STEM learning opportunities. Schools across the country are increasingly adding hands-on programs to engage students and prepare them for a workforce that values science and technology skills.

In addition to rocketry, students participate in collaborative projects and experiments that reinforce key STEM concepts. Teachers emphasize critical thinking, creativity, and perseverance, all of which are essential skills for success in technical careers.

Parents and community members have praised the program for providing meaningful experiences outside traditional classroom learning. Many note that it helps students discover passions they might not have realized, especially in engineering and aerospace fields.

The program will continue throughout the school year, with students working on multiple projects and culminating in a school-wide rocket launch event. Officials hope the success of the program will inspire other schools to introduce similar STEM-focused electives.

By engaging students in hands-on STEM learning, Liberty Middle School is helping prepare the next generation of engineers, scientists, and innovators. The program shows how experiential learning can spark curiosity, encourage teamwork, and equip students with valuable skills for the future.

STEM education experts say programs like “Flight and Space” are essential for giving students early exposure to technical fields. Experiencing the process of designing, testing, and launching rockets helps students understand the relevance of STEM subjects and motivates them to explore further studies and careers.

Liberty Middle School’s new elective demonstrates how schools can make STEM education exciting and accessible. By combining creativity, science, and practical skills, students gain both knowledge and inspiration, setting the stage for lifelong learning and success in technical fields.
