Officials exposed fake websites and political ads during Moldova’s election and fake news videos attacking Ukrainian President Zelenskyy.
The UK imposed sanctions on Russian media and influence outlets while warning allies to counter hostile foreign information campaigns.
Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper sanctioned the Telegram channel Rybar, the Foundation for the Support and Protection of the Rights of Compatriots, and the Centre for Geopolitical Expertise.
She also sanctioned two China-based firms for large-scale cyber operations against the UK and its partners.
Britain Warns of Hybrid Threats
Cooper said Russia uses hybrid attacks to damage infrastructure, weaken national interests, and disrupt democracies.
She described disinformation campaigns that flood social media with AI-generated and manipulated videos to reduce Western support for Ukraine.
Officials highlighted Moldova’s election deception and false Zelenskyy videos as recent examples of coordinated manipulation.
Cooper emphasised that Britain and its allies actively defend against these information warfare threats.
Calls for Stronger International Cooperation
Cooper marked 100 years since the Locarno Treaties, which promoted peace in Europe after World War I.
She stressed that global unity remains vital as US President Trump challenges alliances and questions America’s NATO commitment.
After meeting US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Cooper confirmed Washington fully supports NATO and its European partners.
